Most people think yoga is only about stretching and not a real workout. Nothing could be further from the truth. Yoga is so much more!
I’ve been an athlete most of my life. I played college tennis, trained like crazy, ran, cardio classes, weight training. None of these things have come close to giving me what Yoga has.
Practicing yoga has given me a strong body with long lean muscles and a strong core. I have seen such an amazing increase in my flexibility ( I used to be one of those people who could not even touch my toes). Yoga has helped tremendously with my hip joint pain, and also helped improve my posture. I’ve been able to release tension that I’ve been carrying around with me for many years. It just feels so good to let all the tension go and yoga is doing that for me. and so much more…
Even though Yoga is an amazing full body workout, it also helps me to relax and quiet my mind (which has not been an easy thing for me). Through practicing yoga, I’ve learned patience, being kinder to myself and others, and as my beautiful yoga instructor Kelly often says I’ve learned to “stay calm in the face of adversity”.
There are many different styles of yoga and teaching styles vary as well, so one class may be completely different then another, so sometimes you have to try a few until you find the right “fit”.
