Essential Oils For Beginners

Are you:

  • Tired of only treating the symptoms and never getting to the root cause
  • Wanting to replace the chemically-loaded cleaning and personal care products in your home
  • Looking for a natural way to support your health and wellness

I truly believe that plants and their essential oils have a wonderful and amazing ability to naturally support our health and wellness.

While modern Western Medicine does have its place, I am a huge advocate for living a holistic lifestyle, giving your body what it needs to heal itself and using modern medicine as a last (not first resort). Now while essential oils cannot directly heal you, they can support the body to do what it does best and heal itself.

However the most important thing for me is that I know I am using something pure from nature, not some synthetic formula cooked up in a laboratory where no one truly knows the side effects yet.

I created this article to share with you the power of natural remedies like essential oils. These oils have had an incredible effect on my health and that of my entire family.

My Story (so far)?

I’ll be honest; I didn’t even know what an essential oil was when over seven years ago the owner of a local raw food restaurant, I was eating in, told me about them. You see my son, Austin was 2 years old, and was dealing with an issue that seemed to occur again and again and it was trip after trip to the doctor’s office and dose after dose of antibiotics. And no matter how many things we tried, nothing seemed to be effective.

Well the owner of this restaurant pulled out an oil blend called, breathe and told me it had really helped her granddaughter with a similar issue. I took it home and tried it out on Austin.

I began to use it on him and I noticed the issue quickly disappear. I became so excited about this Breathe oil that I shared it will all my friends and have been using essential oils ever since then.

What Are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are volatile aromatic compounds that are found in plants. These are produced naturally by plants to protect them from bacteria, fungi, detour predators and slow decay. Each plant can have 100’s of compounds and each compound has a different medicinal effect.

These oils are extremely powerful, in fact they are often 50 or more times more potent than they herb or plant they came from. In fact one drop of peppermint oil is equivalent to drinking 28 cups of peppermint tea.

Essential oils come directly from plants and nature, they are not made in a laboratory so you can feel really great about using them to treat yourself and your loved ones.

Essential oils really are the missing key to a traditional diet. Combining a healthy diet with natural medicine like essential oils completes our healthy lifestyle.

History of Essential Oils

For over 5,000 years, many different cultures have used essential oils for a variety of health conditions. In fact Chinese manuscripts and Egyptian hieroglyphics tell us alchemists and priests used essential oils to heal the sick.

Essential oils are the oldest known medicines and cosmetics; the ancients considered them more valuable than gold.

In fact, when King Tut’s tomb was opened in 1922, more than 50 alabaster jars (used to store Essential oils) were found. The jars were mostly empty, only trace amounts of the essential oils were found. Some stores of gold were left undisturbed; it is believed the robbers valued the essential oils more than the gold!

Modern science is just beginning to explore the healing energy of essential oils. For instance, we now know that frankincense is very effective at stimulating the immune system – and the immune system, when working properly, is the body’s best defense against all kinds of disease.

Not All Essential Oils Are Created Equal

I cannot stress how important it is for you to find and use quality essential oils. You may think that just because an essential oil is labeled as “pure” that it is a good oil, that is not necessarily the case.

Most essential oils produced today are made for use in food, perfumes and other cosmetics; these are “food grade” and “perfume grade” oils.

They have been manipulated and adulterated to produce products that have consistent flavors and scents that can be reproduced over and over again.

They are often diluted with synthetic ingredients or added fillers to achieve a certain smell or taste.

Before buying any oil, I encourage you to do your own research.

My Favorite Essential Oil Brand

Personally, I have found a line of oils that I am very happy with and that is doTERRA.

doTERRA oils:

  • Are entirely pure with no fillers. They are also considered to be “therapeutic-grade” which means they are safe to use for therapeutic/medicinal uses.
  • Are free of solvents, contaminates, and synthetic compounds. Every batch of oil undergoes seven tests by a third-party lab.
  • The plants are grown and sourced from their native environments around the world using practices that are beyond organic standards.
  • Because of this commitment to quality, many of these oils are safe for ingestion.
