how to reduce stress in one minute

Did you know that, anytime or anyplace, you can experience the peace that is always with you but gets covered up with inner “noise”.

It’s called a “mini meditation”.

I was listening to a video recently where Eckart Tolle, Author of “The Power of Now” shares about these simple “mini-meditations”.

Even if you don’t think you have “time” to meditate the tip I am going to share with you only takes one minute or less!

A mini meditation is taking one full completely conscious breath. That’s it, that is all you have to do.

It’s bringing your awareness back into the present moment by taking a deep breath in and out. As you breath in on the inhale, be become aware of what is going on in your body. Feeling the rib cage expand and as you exhale feeling the rib cage contract.

By bringing your awareness back into your breath you are in the present where there are no problems, no anxieties, and no worries. As you begin to bring this simple practice into your day, you may even want to take 2 or 3 or more conscious breaths. But to start, you only need take one conscious breath. That is all.

As a yoga teacher I watch as people come into the yoga room at the end of the day, and bring the stress and worries and anxieties of the day right along with them (myself included!). As we come together on our mats and take that first “mindful” breath sometimes it’s the first time in the day that we have noticed our breathing. We come fully into the present and oh how the energy shifts… Immediately a sense of lightness and space and freedom are there.

What a GIFT to teach to our children and teenagers!!

If only I had learned this in school! A mini meditation can be done anytime and anywhere. You may just find yourself doing lots of “mini” meditations throughout your day:)
